DISTRICT 29-3A

Favorites: Mathis, Taft, Goliad

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2018

Goliad returns the most experience from a team that advanced to the regional quarterfinals in 2017, which gives them a slight edge in this race. Odem has to do some rebuilding after Michael Everett and a strong senior class graduated but still expect the Owls to compete for a playoff spot. Taft and Mathis, meanwhile, have an opportunity to battle for second place and possibly be in the district title hunt.

DISTRICT 30-3A

Favorites: Hebbronville, George West

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2018

Hebbronville won the district title last year and there is no reason to believe the Longhorns cannot do the same this season. Hebbronville has six starters returning but also expect San Diego and George West to make a run at them in this short district season.

DISTRICT 31-3A

Favorites: Bishop, Falfurrias, Banquete

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2018

This race could be wild from start to finish as Bishop, Banquete and Falfurrias all return key players from playoff teams. The race for the district title may go into the final week. Meanwhile, London is continuing to build its program and Santa Gertrudis Academy advanced three rounds last season. The team left out of this five-team district could be a good one.

WHAT CAN GO TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT?

Bishop and Falfurrias: Optimism is high on both campuses this season but the two teams have the tools to make a run at Round Rock. The key will be pitching depth and if both will be able to develop some as the season progresses.
